Master of Science

The Master of Science provides advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in a range of specialist scientific fields, through lectures, workshops, projects and directed study. Students can develop an understanding of specialist fields in which they have little previous knowledge, or extend their previous expertise.

Students will learn to critically evaluate the social, economic and environmental impacts of policy and management decision and analyse current and emerging issues in their area of specialisation. They will also develop the skills to apply new and current strategies and to take a leadership role in responding to change.

The following specialisations are offered:

»» Climate change and sustainable resource management
»» Biotechnology
»» Research studies

The Master of Science has a nested Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma (exit point only). It is offered in both full-time and part-time modes and many of the specialisations provide a multimodal attendance pattern through a combination of compulsory on-campus workshops, facilitated on-campus tutorials, and extensive use of the UWS e-learning support system which creates a virtual learning community of scholars.

Sciences at UWS

The School of Natural Sciences is educating tomorrow’s science graduates in an environment that is contemporary, challenging, inter-disciplinary and continually adapting to a rapidly evolving world. This course embraces a range of innovative approaches to teaching and is designed to equip our graduates with a passion for life-long learning.

This course contains linkages between teaching, industry and the community, allowing students to place their study and learning in real-world contexts.

All staff involved in the teaching of the course are experts in their field of specialisation and have strong research and consultancy links to industry. This experience allows them to incorporate leading edge knowledge, research and technology into their teaching.

Course Structure

To qualify for the degree of Master of Science, a candidate must successfully complete 80 credit points.
