Graduate Diploma in TESOL
English is now a global language, used worldwide in multilingual contexts. The Graduate Diploma in TESOL provides graduates with a professional qualification for teaching English to speakers of other languages.
A qualification in TESOL can be a means of combining work and travel opportunities, with employment available in many countries other than Australia. It provides an excellent opportunity to work overseas, meet people, live in and learn more about other cultures and to learn other languages.
TESOL at UWS
TESOL at UWS is offered at the Bankstown campus, one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse regions of Australia. UWS TESOL values bi- and multi-lingualism, with our staff having extensive experience and expertise in the field of TESOL, linguistics and languages.
The academic staff of the School of Humanities and Languages work in close cooperation with UWSCollege and their language providers in Sydney to organise internship placements, to access current industry expertise in teaching methodology and to identify resources and trends in the field. The UWS internship is innovative, leading the field in offering students extensive access to language teaching providers in Sydney.
It’s all about Career Opportunities
Graduates holding a qualification in TESOL can find employment in Australia in a range of different private and government settings. One example is UWSCollege where international students learn English through the ELICOS program (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students).
Another option is the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), an Australian Commonwealth Government-funded program which provides English language tuition for newly arrived migrants and refugees at various centres across the country.
Those who are looking for employment overseas will find opportunities readily available, given that many countries such as China, Japan and Chile have bilingual policies in place. Opportunities are also plentiful in Asia, Africa, South America, the Middle East and Europe.
Internship
The UWS TESOL staff work in close conjunction with UWSCollege to organise internship placements. UWSCollege is the University’s language provider in Sydney.
