Non Award Study
A person who wishes to complete single units offered by the University without undertaking an award may apply for admission as a non-award student. Non-award admission allows applicants to undertake professional and personal development.
How to apply
You must complete a Non-Award Application form and submit it to the Admissions Unit by the advertised closing date.
Cost
Fees apply for each undergraduate unit studied. Postgraduate (post-Bachelor degree) units will be charged at the full postgraduate fee rate.
Closing date
Applications must be submitted to the Admissions Unit by the advertised closing date.
Cross Institutional Study for UWS Students
If you are a current student and you wish to study units at another institution, you will need to apply at both the other institution and UWS.
How to apply
You must complete an Academic Approval Request for Cross Institutional Studies
The form should be lodged directly to your School, with a separate application form completed for each teaching session.
Documentation
Academic approval from your Head of Program must be provided on the form to confirm that you have permission for the Cross Institutional study to be counted towards your Award course.
The Head of Program for your award course also specifies on this form the amount of Advanced Standing that can be applied for if the cross institutional units are successfully completed.
The information on the Academic Approval Request for Cross Institutional Study form will be used to expedite the processing of your application for Advanced Standing when you have completed your cross institutional studies.
Enrolment
If you are studying concurrently in the same teaching session, your enrolment at UWS will follow the normal procedure.
You will need to contact the other institution for information about completing units cross institutionally.
You will need to adhere to enrolment procedures set out by the other institution for studies undertaken there.
Examinations
If you are studying concurrently at UWS and another institution, there could be potential clashes with examination times. As a UWS student it is expected that if a clash is evident, you will make alternative arrangements with the other institution to address this.
Leave of Absence requirements
If you do not enrol in any units for a session at UWS while you are studying cross-institutionally, you will be automatically placed on Leave of Absence for the period required.
This Leave of Absence is different to standard leave and is only granted to students who have successfully applied for cross institutional studies.
Students who are granted this leave will still be eligible to apply for an ordinary Leave of Absence when they return to studies at UWS.
Cost
If you are studying concurrently, you may be charged fees according to your enrolled unit load for the teaching session.
You will not be charged fees by UWS if you are not enrolled for the teaching session.
Applying for Advanced Standing after you have completed your cross institutional study
You will need to apply for Advanced Standing using the Request for Advanced Standing after Cross Institutional Study form if you have:
- successfully completed your cross institutional studies, and
- completed an Academic Approval Request for Cross Institutional Study form before studying at the other institution.
Otherwise you will need to complete an Application for Advanced Standing form.
You will need to supply a certified copy of your academic transcript from the other institution in order for your application to be processed.
